Thanks Kerry. Gorilla trekking sure is a fantastic experience. Being out in the open with these gentle giants, sometimes just 12 ft (3.6m) away or less, is awesome! The great pictures were made possible, in part, by going digital and buying fast glass. Being able to shoot at ISO 800 and f2.8 let me capture vastly more usable images than shooting at ISO 200 and f5.6 (E100VS pushed a stop and a Canon EF 100-400 f4.5-5.6) like I did in Uganda in 2002.

What a capture... I can't even imagine being in the presence of these spectacular animals. How fortunate to be able to see these guys in their natural habitat, let alone get such great pictures and memories as these (both photos are great). Congrat's... I'm envious!

Spectacular shot James.
They look so relax and peaceful and the details are amazing.
Thank you for sharing this moment of intimacy of the great apes.
These guys survived the poachers that Diane Fosey fought against and the civil war of 1994. They have been on the brink of extinction but still they continue striving at the Virunga mountains.
Is good to see this beautiful mother with her baby. That shows that they still breeding successful and that there is hope for the future of the Mountain Gorilla.
