About	The harvesting of trees requires that the area harvested be limited and that old growth must be adjacent to the cut area. Also required is that some old growth trees be left on the cut area to help repopulate the harvested land. This photo shows the old growth trees next to the new growth trees. Other types of trees grow along with the red wood trees but will be thinned out when the red woods grow taller. The new growth trees are in an area that was harvested about 12 years ago.
