Picture taken in Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso. Who ever gets the money to buy a welding torch opens its own workshop, hoping to earn a living for its family.
Hi Jurg, Very powerful reportive photo, with a good story telling ability. I like the tilt in the camera in this one, it adds an unusual element of dynamism, which really works well; to me, it takes this shot out of the ordinary - the ordinary journalistic type of photo that is.
The only nit I have is that I think the interior of the shed is just a bit too dark; if you could've preserved a few (faint) details and contrasts, I think the overall feel of a "dark" image could've been reduced, making the narrative in it come out stronger. Given the lighting conditions, which seem very bright, to say the least, I think that would've been fairly difficult to achieve without blowing out the more important parts.
Either way, a very strong shot, very good capture.
