Hi Keith, if you really want to build one the OK.. have fun. But i would buy a template. It doesn't cost all the world and they look very professional. Type in an Internet search machine something like "web templates photogrpahers" and you will fund leterally hundreds, cheap, with histing and much much better than you could do yourself, that is unless you are a web designer/programmer yourself. But then if you were you wouildn't have asked this question *smile*
Hope this helps
Best wishes, Neil

Keith, sorry about my spelling. That should read
"...you will find literally hundreds, cheap and much better than you could do......"

Hey Keith, they are several web companies that provide hosting specifically designed for photographers. They allow you to sell your images online as various iszed prints, and allow you to link your checking account w/ paypal and depsoit the money directly into your account. You then have the print made and mail it to the customer youself, or using an online photofinisher. E-mail me if u have any more specific questions,

Also, check out my site, which is the same as mentioned above:

Hi Keith,
If you want something simple, where all the hard work is done for you and all you need to worry about is taking the photos, check out these chaps:
http://www.amazinginternet.com/
They have a price tag indeed, but is not over the top, and they do really deliver professional looking websites.
Worth mentioning is the extreme ease of use and the friendliness of the people if you do have to deal with them.
Highly recommended if you want a very quick and professional looking website. They even offer a 30 day demo website.
Regards, Ciprian
P.S. I am not associated with amazing internet in any way, I just found them by browsing other photography websites.

Hi Keith, i suggest by starting with deciding how the site will be organized; then a simple layout drawing; after that you can think of navigation and colors.
based on all above you can start having some templates for pages. YOu can look over the internet for templates. Some small advices: on all pages keep the same menus is better when you navigate; don't mix templates and colors in different sections of you site; unitary is better.
You can take a look here: http://www.accidentalmeetings.tk
You can contact me on my private address if you want.
cheers, calin

Hi Keith
I started off building my own pages but as Neil rightly says there are far easier ways out there.
My site www.williamjennings.org is hosted and set up by www.tararua.co.uk whom I've been with for about 2 years now and would highly recommend.

Hi, Keith! I don?t know whether I?ll give you a hand in this challenge with what I know but I?d really want to! I?ve heard good responses from sitekreator.com. There you can make galleries, choose from a large number of templates and it is a simple online website builder. Most of all it?s free :)! I didn?t try it yet but next week I?ll shoot my first wedding. I promised to the bride to make her a wedding site and I?m also thinking of using it. Wish you success with the site!

Keith,
Glad to see you are willing to learn and want to move onto the web. Even though people say its not required, it is a good idea to get a basic understanding of HTML if you are going to be making the website yourself. As for templates out there, you need a fairly good understand of HTML, Photoshop, and often FLASH if you really want to use them.
But as mentioned before, you need to decide first what level of the web you want to be at. Do you want to sell images online? Do you want a truly professional website (willing to pay for)? Do you simply want to throw your pictures online where someone can see them?
If you need any help with things like Photoshop, HTML, or FLASH feel free to ask.
And of course:
:-) shameless I know
Check out these designs http://templates.andrewwirth.com/search.html?category=40

Keith, one other thing before building a web site which is very important. Make sure you have a good psychiatrist on call for when you are finished, you will need it ;=] Speaking from experience here :=}

A good WYSIWYG program will do wonders for you. If you want to delve into HTML, JAVA Script, FLASH etc, I would also recommend a frig stocked with Guiness....doesn't do much for your web-building but does help with the aforementioned frustration!!
