  Q. Image sensor angle adjustment?
Erik von Baughman
Asked by Erik von Baughman    (K=1333) on 7/5/2010
I have a Sony Alpha. It seems like the image sensor is tilted. I've shot test shots at brick walls with a tripod and no matter how level my view finder image is, the final shot is tilted. Is this an adjustment that I can make at home? I work on robots and machines at my job so I'm handy with tools but haven't done any camera work. If I need a repair shop to fix this, will it be worth the cost? Any information anyone could provide will be greatly appreciated! I'm on a budget and don't really want to buy another DSLR if this one can be fixed.

I doubt you would be able to get the minute adjustments needed without specialist tools for both the work and the callibration.
And of course a dust free environment!

Better contact a service center and ask for a quote, most will charge a small amount for performing diagnostics which is refurbished if you let them perform the repairs/maintenance work.

As to whether it's worth the money, that depends on what you'd do otherwise.
If you would otherwise buy a replacement camera, set the maximum price for the repairs at a relatively small amount.
IOW, what's that camera worth to you?

That's about what I figured. I guess I'll try and find a repair shop since a new camera isn't in the budget.

Thanks for your help.

You work with electronics and robotics actually your ideally suited to mess with your own stuff if its not super expensive.
Most people ill never suggest someone fix thier camera.
b4 you fix it though you need something.. another camera.
as while your fixing you need to document heavily that way you can recall what to rescrew once you fix the problem spot.
of course you'll still need to replace a part by the sounds of it.
id suggest you look at getting a sensor cleaning kit and see if its just dust issues.
