About I'd shown this picture prior, but watermarked it. One tends to like this one for some reason, and have indicated that the watermark distracted. Thus, here we go again. The story behind it goes something like "I shot this on a trip along the Maharashtra-Gijarat border, at a tribal village, remote, obscured by river and forest. Christian missionaries have long run schools in the area, this was at one such school." And technically, well, the light was way to low, I exposed at 3200, used a tripod and cabel release.

Nice feeling, simpliciyt & hearty, the high angle camera is a bit distract, but the intimate moment is nice, Bravo Menon. please see my shots.

Light low or not, this is a wonderfully powerful image. I love the shadows - but the girl is amazingly captured here. You did an amazing crop on this and the angle is PERFECT. This is a well deserved award!

Impressive image. I am particularly impressed at the lack of film grain when you pushed that film to 3200. Fuji makes great stuff! Everything came into place here with the lighting and the direction the little girl is looking. Also pleasing is her bare feet but the inclusion of her flip flops in the distance.

Bravo Girish!
Your shot arises my recent thoughts about why do we get inspired, creative, emotional when we travel to poor countries, especially the ones that have very old civilizations. Is it some kind of instict that magnetizes us towards there. What is the beauty caused from. Because the image you captured is of indisputable beauty. The same think I wonder when I try to capture moments in my country. I usually walk on the paths extra modern civilization blossom.
Anyway It is early in the morning in Athens for such type of thinking. Please take a look at Stefan Rohner's portfolio, if you don't know him already.

Yours
T

Very beautiful Girish! Much of what is wonderful about this image has already been said. I will just add that I especially like the contrast of the lacy dress against the rough floor and bare feet. Amy

Congratulations on BIP - well deserved for this stunning image. |I think the low lighting really adds to it, perhaps because the colour of her dress helps to bring the overall effect of colour into the shot, if seems to reflect on her face Very lovely

This is beautiful. The wood plank next to the sandals did not bother me. My suggestion would be to remove both items, the plank and the sandals if you're going to go that route. I like it as it is but I can see Randy's point.

It's her gaze, dress, hands, and bare feet that captured my attention. 7+

Very nice capture. I like the light very much and the fact that we see her shooes in the background. Not sure what it is, but it definitely has something!

Thanks, Randy. I cannot instantly make out what it is that you've altered. Is it the small plank of wood behind the slippers? If that's the case, I guess it works. Never thought of that, thanks.

This is a wonderful portrait of a beautiful girl. The low lighting added to the mood here.
I don't know how you feel about anyone altering your picture and don't know how resizing will effect it, but I was distracted by the object by her thongs and removed it,see what you think. Love tis image and putting it in favorites.
