Dear John,

you seem to be the uncrowned master of color planes composings. wow! 6 BIPs. that's an astonishing number. and well deserved.

I really like the way you compose your pictures. simple & effective. you have a great eye seeing these things.

as Hugo said the blurred out parasol is a bit scary here. you probably did that deliberately, and I see the point. plain blue sky, the shadowed part with the textures, and the blurred out foreground. this is perhaps too much for this kind of abstract ;-) just an idea though, I like the composing as it is.

take care,

Thilo

John,
Yes, I think we do share the same interest in detaila of light, shadow, color, and shape, with dramatic composition. This is great!
Thank for visiting my photos.

Thanks Hugo, you're probably right about the DOF.
I was just sipping a beer on the terrace (after an warm day on the beach) when I noticed the roofline.
So I didn't spend much time on it, the terrace was full of surpriced tourists anyway.
(Crazy guy taking photograps from a roof, he must have been in the sun to long :)

No offense to either of you, John, but your use of shapes and colors reminds me of Pete Turner's work. You have a true designer;s eye!

Ik kan het ook niet zo mooi zeggen als jij trouwens! Dus het is wel makkelijk als ik kan zeggen: I agree with Hugo!

Hij (Hugo) is me weer voor.... :)
and again I agree with him, at least his comment about the DOF (not the composition, which I think is just fine). I also think I'ld prefer the whole image sharp.
The colours are so summer!
:)

Hi John, simple, but effective. As for the composition, I think including a tad more of the parasol could create a better balanced image...

It might sound quite conflicting with my previous comment to you, but in this case, I also think I'd opt for a wider DOF. The parasol is a bit out of focus, and although that creates a sense of distance / depth, making it appear in focus would've emphasised the geometric composition and thus the effect of the photo. The details (screws, division line of the roof profile and ofcourse the very faint whiff of clouds in the sky) add alot of interest to this shot. Another reason why I think the DOF needs to be wider.... too many elements...

Nonetheless I like this shot.

Cheers,

Hugo
