I really like the lighting in this photo - at first I though it was from a flash, but looking more closely I can see that the shadows cast by the peeling bark are from a more distant source - evening sun? Anyway, the result is really cool! I like the 'patchiness' of the light - to me it emphasized the bulge in the trunk where the tree is bursting through it's outer shell. The only thing I find distracting is the patch of blue sky in the upper-right - just feels kind of incongruous because the color is such a departure from the others in the scene. I like this a lot, though!

Those arbutus trees are strange indeed. I have often wanted to have a pic of one of these. Whenever I go out to visit my parents I give it another try to copy the image to celluloid. Most aren't nearly as good as this. Your lighting is a little patchy.

Very fascinating tree here. I thought it was like some kind of poster paper that was glued on.... or something like that anyway. Neat!

Mostafa, thank you so much for taking the time to comment, as well as take a look. I really like this image, and the slide has colours and shadow depth that my scanner just couldn't recreate.
But still, to only have 6 people look at this... and only one comment.... oh well. I still like it.
