Excellent work . . . The blow out area lower right central is slightly distracting from what IMHO would be otherwise a world-class shot. I'm not sure why you wouldn't apply a slight burn there. Can't find anthing else to critique. Excellent material. Excellent image. Having seen the color version I FAR prefer it but understand why you posted this. Exquisite scene. The PANO version absolutely ROCKS! Love the scene color and B&W . . . first class on clarity and composition. Congrats on the award. I've been here before . . . having lived in South Dakota . . . what an amazing place, eh?

ummm... there is a dead river...realy dead cuz the earth is stiff...good capture by lighting sunset on the right wall of this river...and b&w show we have a clever photographer...and i like the panorama shot!+++7

Michael - Once again, nice shot. I would have to agree with Mr. Adams, I like the color version a better. The colors seem to help the photo "pop" more. Also, thank you for always putting in a little description on how you processed your photographs. I know that it makes me think on how I can improve my work.

A little bit about this shot:
This is a stitch of three or four separate shots. I was trying to get the details and textures of the landscape and noticed that I had rotated around an axis after the fact. Stitching them resulted in a rather nice view of everything I was trying to capture.
Taken in the north unit of the park - less visited and much better.
The color version is nice too - I just converted to grayscale because I could post a larger image. That's the only reason.
I use masking in Photoshop to set the "levels" - brightness and contrast - of parts of my shots independently. That is why the dark cliffs, foreground in shadow, foreground in highlight, and sky all seem to have a lot of definition. Normally this would be balanced across and somewhat more muted. I try to bring out the details of the human eye - which compensates for a lot of range without us knowing it.
FYI for non-donors: This is viewable in a much larger scale and detail with the panoramic view.
