Hey Thanks Robert! No noise reduction at all . . . I've never gotten a program that will do that . . . Heck, I'm still on elements. :)

(I'll enjoy the game and hope you do too . . . but due to Robin's influence we're rooting for DA' BEARS even though it seems an unlikely win. Besides, MY team isn't playing!)

Who said you were ahead?? ;)

That's a very true and very complementary comment Kara . . . and I appreciate it. This old soul was at a zoo . . . but I don't feel sad for him. More like a retirement home and well deserved easy life. Huge natural pen . . . a vet on call . . . free food . . . and he had a few companions too. Not so bad really! :)

Doyle I <~~~~~

This picture is fantastic but it makes me really sad. I'm not sure why; perhaps the expression on his face? I don't necessarily think that's a negative thing, in fact quite the opposite. The amount of emotion an image can evoke can be a great measure of the greatness of the shot.
I'm rambling now, though, so I'll stop while I'm ahead. :)

Thanks Jan . . . when we were children we were at a place (in Montana I think) where we were permitted to ride these big guys . . . some of them may last longer than stone statues too!! LoL! Always appreciate hearing from you!

Thanks Nil . . . where ever they're from . . . they seem to me to symbolize ancient creatures . . . both individually AND as a species . . . long lives and they never wake me up too early in the morning!! Wait a minute . . . I wonder if there's a connection? :)

Oooooh. Wait a minute . . . the name's familiar . . . don't tell me . . . uhhhhhhh . . . LoL! Look who's not going to be ill forever!! LoL! . . . nice to see you up and at 'em!! ;)

I know you don't like the B&W . . . but it does emphasize the ancient history of this creature I think. And I appreciate you didn't ask to bring this humongous creature home . . . (I'll be marking the calendar)! :)

Doyle D. Chastain Doyle D. Chastain   {K:101119} 1/30/2007
Thanks Joe. It's as you said . . . B&W is a better medium to convey (or emphasize) texture and form than color and that's why I presented this in that manner. As it happens . . .the drab colors from the pen were almost monotone anyway and I composed this shot from the beginning as a B&W composition. Riny's Dutch comment above was much the same and (as I told him) I'm at work or would have added a photo in color to the comment . . . but it's not available to me here. He was, indeed, resting but would ocassionally swipe up some dirt for some reason. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks Riny. I think the color really adds very little to this shot. Ik ben op het werk, mijn vriend. Geen kleur zal u tonen.

Thanks Liz . . . I appreciate the comment. They ARE large and - very old on ocassion. Sort of a feel of ancient life meeting today's daybreak . . . It makes one wonder what all they've witnessed. :)

Gives added elegance to such a beautiful, long lived creature...

The majesty of these is awe inspiring to say the least...:)

Doyle -- way cool guy, he is. Nicely done and "shady" looking for just the way he must like it. B&W an excellent choice. He looks like he could be a stone statute.
--Best to you, Jan

Excellent tones and details... this is a huge animal.... few days back we had a same in Zoological Garden Kolkata India.. not from Galapagos but from Aldabra, was 255 years old when died.

Is he trying to turn on a dime? I like it, even though I don't care for B&W. Good shot of the eye too

Joe Brown Joe Brown   {K:23213} 1/29/2007
Very nice shot of the tortoise. Details show up well in B&W but my personal choice without seeing the colour version would likely be for colour as I am a colour person. Is he just resting? Well done.
Regards.

I am far from being able to critique this properly Doyle, but I know that the composition is great, as is the perspective.
Nice choice of b/w tones too.
They are rather large creatures aren't they.
Cheers,
Liz
