Hey Andre, I left the list because I wasn't happy with the way things were going. The Photo of the month lasted 7 or 8 months and in forum there was talk of members photos being stolen, plus members were paying their dues and none of the staff posted their payments.
I moved to another site. If you really want to look at my photos they can be seen at-
pbase.com/bsmith48134.
I still pop in here from time to time to see how my friends are doing so I'll be around.

I was surprised to find your images taken down from the site? Any particular reason?
I always look forward to seeing other peoples nature photography, so I will miss your images.

Thanks Bill,
That comment means a lot to me.
This is one of my recent personal favourites. However, I wouldn't like to admit how many I deleted from that day's shoot. :)
Still it feels pretty good when everything comes together nicely, even in just a few.

Very impressive capture Andre, I see you and your camera have become one!!I think this will look good in a large size for the wall. Congrats.

Thanks Kes,
It's been a long time since my last post, mainly because I'm having trouble living up to this shot.
It is one of my personal favourites.

Superb image, Andre! Everything is just spot-on here! I think this one is in the "bird on a stick facing backwards" category.

Thanks Eb,
I think I'll have to take note of the settings for this one. I really like the effect of the dof on the background branches and leaves. At first I was concentrating on the bird so much that I almost ignored the background.

Thanks Krisnendu,
I find there are a couple of factors that quite often hinder the exact sharpness with my camera/lens combo. I try not to use an iso number higher than 400 because of the noise factor. So, the shutter speed is limited in lower light conditions. It can be a real compromise sometimes. As you know a long focal length combined with low shutter speed is not a good recipe. Also as you say the TC can be tricky because of the DOF being reduced to such narrow band. I try to concentrate on the eyes and beaks and let everything else come as may. In any case, I am fairly happy with most results.
Talk to you later.

Very nice framing. I feel that you were not as lucky with the light in this shot as you were with your previous ones. Initially it seemed a bit soft (blaming it on the TC), however after checking your other bird photographs I realised you liked it that way. All the best for you future birding projects. Regards.

Thanks Stan,
It's a great time of year for getting shots like this. Yes, it is a standard "bird on a stick" image.... but a pretty darned good one if I do say so myself :)
I was reading an article on "bird photography" where the author talked about how you have to master the "bird on a stick" image. I think the next step is to get them in interesting action, like feeding or preening. It takes a lot of luck and patience for that kind of shot. So, you continue taking "birds on a stick" to hone your skills. Makes sense to me.

Thanks Stan,
I think this time of year is a good time to get just a little closer to some of these birds because they usually don't want to go too far from their nests. Still, I try to keep my distance as much as I can, so as not to disturb them too much.
