Tha'ts great to hear and I feel the same way! I wish I got a lot more real critiques myself!

Sheila Carson Sheila Carson   {K:5924} 4/13/2006
Thanks again. Don't ever worry about my toes. I wish more people would give me advice. Feel free to truly critique anything of mine!

I am not super familiar with PS4.0. The catch light i just use the stamp too. I go and get some white some place and then put the opacity around 25%. Then you just tape in the eye lightly at either 10:00 or 2:00 depending on where the light source is. Glad you liked what I did with it. I always worry about stepping on toes! : )

Hi again!

I have Photo Shop 4.0. I would love it if you could explain the catch light and how to use the blur tool to achieve the dof like you did. I have tried it a few times, but it hasn't looked anything like yours. Thanks for the help.

Angela Freed   {K:10061} 4/13/2006
Oh, I also played with the dof using the blur tool. Forgot to add that before. : )

Angela Freed   {K:10061} 4/13/2006
Hey, I decided to play a little with your shot. I could have done more with an original. It was super small and I couldn't get it to go larger to really work on the eyes. But I took your original color and converted using an action called Robin Purcell. Then I played with the catch lights. Hope you don't mind.

Angela Freed   {K:10061} 4/13/2006
You're welcome. I have made "fake" catch lights before and once in a while get an affect that i like. Do you have photoshop CS2?? I could walk you through it. The best thing though is to really watch the catch lights when you are taking the picture.

Thanks Angela! I actually love your ideas. I just recently got PS, so I'm still learning how to do all of the great things that it can do.

What do you think is the best way to add a catch light to his eyes (besides getting it right in-camera)? Is there a good way to do it with PS?

Thanks so much for your help!

Angela Freed   {K:10061} 4/12/2006
Love the perspective here. I wonder how it would look with just a touch more contrast. Make him come out from the back ground a little. Also, if he had more catch lights in his eyes so they popped too. These are just ideas for you though. Feel free to take them or throw them out! : )

Ohhhh, he looks like he needs a hug, Sheila! Nice b&w! Happy 3rd birthday to the little man!
Susie and I went down to LaConner yesterday and got some shots. The weather was really nice. I hope you make it down there this year!

I thought from the thumbnail that he had been caught doing something naughty. This is a look I taught the World jhgvschg years ago and it was generally thrown in the direction of an agrieved adult.
I love the mono tones in this pleasing study Sheila and although the colour version is a must in the family album the main posting suits the pose and that fabulous expression. I love too the wonderful shooting angle, if you like take another showing the words on the shirt but this has a far greater impact just the way it is. Well done to you sweetie. Very best wishes as always....Ray

Thanks so much for your comment Hugo! I decided to convert this to black and white for two reasons. First of all, I thought that all of the greens kind of blended together too much and didn't have the impact that the dramatic black and white tones did. The other reason I decided to convert the picture was because I wanted to try the dramatic shadowed effect that I've seen from other photographers on UF. I thought that the expression on his face worked well with the dramatic tones. I will attach the color version so you can see what you think.

Thanks again!

Thank you for your comment Mario! I'd have to agree with you about the shirt. It would have been great to see what it said.

There are many things that are... perfect ;-)

Pov, Desaturation, expression. I just wish we could have read the text on his shirt. It would have add a extra on the overall composition!

Great shot!

Hi Sheila, great expression, and I really like this angle. and use of wide angle lens. Very good PoV.

I'm curious why you converted this to B&W, I think the colour version would tell the same story, and maybe have a bit more impact.

Cool shot, and very well captured.
