Since I am an old farmer I appreciated your explanation of the breed. I too thought they were Charlois. While not that bad, Charlois sometimes have trouble with the birth of their calves. My father always raised Herfords. Thanks for sharing. Del.

I noticed that they were very heavily muscled and in such good shape for being on grass. Yes that would be a problem with calves. Thanks. Don.

Hi Don, thanks for the comments.
No, they're not Charlois, they're called Belgium Blue. Although often white, some are grey blueish colored. I myself don't like them very much. They're purely bred for their extensive muscle (=meat) and the cows can't give birth in a natural way because there's no way the calves can come out by themselves. Every year the vet has to deliver the calves by performing a ceasarean.
I like the 'oldfashioned' bony cows a lot better.

A wonderful scene. They sure are some beautiful cattle. Are they Charlois? A great row of trees in the background.. Nice picture. Don.
