Wow!! Sizzling!! Talk about being at the right place at the right time and being able to take advantage of the situation!! Awesome image!! Love how the tree to the left stands out in the middle of the halo around it!! The clarity is amazing considering its in the night and the only light is from the fire! It is pretty raging though isn't it? Is this in Sydney and which part 'cause if it is then it could be pretty near to where I live in Glenfield!

yup, that makes sense and thanks for the explanation..also read your next comment and i got chills to think you were camping smack in the middle of this brush fire. They are very common here too, especially this time of year, but they can get quite intense and i don't think i'd want to have a tent pitched at the same time and place that one of these things gets going! thanks for responding: kat~

Hi Alan
Its actually a low intensity brush fire, and quite a regular occurrence in the north of Australia.
Often started by locals or lightning strikes.
This one came roaring at us then went around both sides of our campsite. Next morning you couldnt tell a fire had been through!
Still unnerving to be caught in it tho!

The red glow in the sky is the smoke billowing up from the ground. Its red because of the colour of the fire. Does that make sense ?

wonderful and rare capture. i especially like the tree in the forefront, the way the flames make the branches glow. i realize this is night photography but why is there such a sharp edge between the red glow of the fire and the night sky? It is effective and balances well with the black at the bottom. i'm just wondering why it looks that way. (?) Best regards from Costa Rica: kat~
