Donna, this was such a great idea..you had your brain working when you saw this. i love it, it speaks to today, yesterday and everything in between, exactly the way a Corvette should do. It's a classic, after all, and it can't be dated. i love the black and white squares for all the reasons mentioned. Normally, what you could do to electrify them a bit is to select the area, feather the selection 75 to 100 pixels and then hit it with the values or curves tools. i opened this in PS to do just that and what i see is that you don't have enough data to work with. If you lighten this up any further you start getting pixel artifacts and that's real ugly. You might try this on your TIFF version if you have one. It will have more data to work with. Or just leave it alone and let the neon and glossy curves of the car do the shouting and the squares can recede quietly into the background..their subtlety makes their presence known just fine. Best regards: kat~

It's kind of late now, but I wasn't clear about the black and white squares. I didn't mean to eliminate them, I meant to get them a little whiter and sharper looking - somewhat like what Chris came up with. Thanks to all for your helpful comments.

Nice lines/shapes/reflections ... well seen! I agree with some others on the cropping at the bottom ...

Nice seeing and excellent photo Donna. Personally, I don't think the black/white pattern hurts this shot as after all the checkered flag signifies the winner;>) I like it as is. As Mike suggests, I'd crop a bit off the bottom too. Cheers. Craig

I really like the tiles on the wall, as Michaelle said, they add to the retro feel of the picture, which definately fits the old corvette. The neon and it's reflection are both captured very well, as well as the 'vette of course. I do agree with other comments on the cropping, a little tighter on the bottom.

Hi Donna,
A wonderful photo! I like both the original version and the one modified by Michaelle. The checkerboard tiles seem to go well with the Corvette, but the modified version does make the neon on the Corvette really jump out.
A dillema - TWO excellent photos!!
Best regards, SteveR

Donna, I think I like the black and white tiles... it adds to the very retro graphic feel that the neon gives to the image. Taking out the tiles would not be hard, but the image would have a very different feel to it. Attached it the same thing in all black except for the neon (and a crop). This was a quicky job, but you can see how the overall tone of the image changes...
After looking at both, i still think I prefer the tiles, but with the crop as suggested. Really a cool shot - especially considering you did not have a lot of options.
