Thanks Hugo. It sure was freezing. It was about -30F (-34C) when I was shooting this guy.

Thanks for the comment Marc. This was shot about two minutes after the light reached the foreground. See my previous two posts for shots earlier that morning.

Thanks Hugo. I agree that the upper layer doesn't add anything to the shot. I thought about cropping it before uploading it, but I couldn't get myself to do it because I always deal in 2x3 or 4x5 aspect ratio images. Maybe I should step outside the box a bit.

Fantastic composition! I love the way the structure extends from the darkness in the center of the flower to the darkness of the background, and of course the B&W really makes this stand out.

Another really cool shot Hugo. Normally I can't stand out of focus foreground elements in wildlife shots, but the green that surrounds this guy really makes him stand out. Thanks for the excellent image to broaden my concept of successful images.

Cool shot Hugo! I love the patterns created by the wires. While this is a fairly typical view, capturing it with the fisheye makes it unique and interesting.

Wonderful image Dave. I like the light on the leaves with one front lit and the other backlit. The heavy frost is interesting too.

Thanks for your detailed critique Hugo. I know what you mean about "including too much" --- I wasn't really happy with any of the compositions I tried because I couldn't reduce the image to only hold the good parts. (I just posted another composition that I thought came about as close as this one.) The sky is quite hot as you pointed out, mainly so that the snow would look about right. The high key look intrigued me, so I didn't try to bring it back closer to reality. However, your comment got me thinking that maybe I should have controled the sky better.

Cool shot Dave. Great line of frost, and the similar line in the background completes the composition.

Thanks Pat. I agree that I had to get back into the wild. (The raptor shots were taken on an organized shoot all outside of cages, but they were restrained by jesses and leashes.) In the middle of Dec I went up to Grand Teton for a few days and froze my butt off with temps between –31°F (-35 °C) to –3 °F (-19 °C). It was worth it though to get some great landscape and wildlife shots that I'll start posting later today. I just got back from Bosque Del Apache NWR in NM where I shot snow geese and sandhill cranes. Later this week I'll be heading to Yellowstone and Banff/Jasper.
