Thanx, Laurie, and to answer your question; yes, I live right in the middle of it in fact. A small town of app 70.000 people in the northern part of Norway (70'N - quite a bit north of the arctic circle). At these latitudes the northern lights (aurora borealis) is at its strongest and can be visible from September until late March. It all depends on the solar winds and, of course, the weather. On clear winter nights it can be quite strong and even highly visible in the city, even with all the lightpollution from streetlights, buildings etc. These pictures you've seen are shot 20-30 minute drive from home so I can get away from all artificial lightsources.

Maybe it's worth mentioning that at this time of year we have another phenomenon that only a limited number of people can experience, and that's the midnight sun. The sun is, until late July, above the horizon 24hrs a day. Our next sunset will be at July 24th.... Just another funfact for you, Laurie. It's quite beautiful and a few shots of the midnight sun is also presented on www.kodiak.no.

Fantastic shot Gaute!!
Tromso is a very beautiful part of Norway. I was lucky enough to visit that area (Narvik, Bardufoss, Tromso) three times. I would love to visit Tromso again one day.

When we do have an aurora (which we have not had for awhile), I always hope for 'angel wings'. You had a marvelous display and captured these 'angel wings' beautifully. Marvelous shot.
