Thank you very much for your comments which I have taken on board. I agree a crop would have been better but I was aware the rays were not as sharp as should have been. I am still practicing with my 18-55mm kit lens but to intend to update in the future. Much appreciated, thanks.

My eye is drawn to the small, odd rays of light in the middle. To me they are THE picture. Next is the narrow swath of green, through the middle. The wild foreground and the top of the clouds are much less important. I initially thought that some application of the rule of thirds would help. A telephoto lens could isolate the rays. A panoramic crop of just the green and rays might be nice. Finally, the rays themselves are a bit blown out. By concentrating on them you'd more easily handle that.
