Thanx, Laurie, and to answer your question; yes, I live right in the middle of it in fact. A small town of app 70.000 people in the northern part of Norway (70'N - quite a bit north of the arctic circle). At these latitudes the northern lights (aurora borealis) is at its strongest and can be visible from September until late March. It all depends on the solar winds and, of course, the weather. On clear winter nights it can be quite strong and even highly visible in the city, even with all the lightpollution from streetlights, buildings etc. These pictures you've seen are shot 20-30 minute drive from home so I can get away from all artificial lightsources.
More pictures of this phenomenon can be seen on my web-site www.kodiak.no, and you're more than welcome to take a quick look.
Once again; thank you for your nice comment and for taking the time to browse through my pictures.
Maybe it's worth mentioning that at this time of year we have another phenomenon that only a limited number of people can experience, and that's the midnight sun. The sun is, until late July, above the horizon 24hrs a day. Our next sunset will be at July 24th.... Just another funfact for you, Laurie. It's quite beautiful and a few shots of the midnight sun is also presented on www.kodiak.no.

Love to hear from you again

How do you do it, Marek.........you make my pictures seem pointless...... Once again; a stunning image from your excellent library.

I would in fact prefer this without the footprints in the foreground, but that's just me..

Is this really at f/8.0? At that speed? amazing....
Impressive catch, it must be hard as hell to follow at that speed..

I like this shot - it's perfect in b/w, and the exposure is hard in such conditions, but you got it spot-on. Almost perfect, but you need to straighten the horizon to get it complete.

I would love to see more detailed photographs of this old pier. Hopefully also in colours.
Keep me updated if you do, please......

Thnx

The category is definately correct, and the imagetitle says it all.
Both scary and fascinating shot, Noha.

Great colours and contrast, but the horizon needs some work to get it level. Otherwise a beautiful shot.

Thank you!

It's definately real, straight from the CCD. Unfortunately it's impossible to display the true beauty of the northern lights since it's moving around constantly. This shot is approximately 30s exposure, so you wont be able to se the texture of it.

The forground is highlighted slightly with a flashlight.

Very dramatic and inspiring, Simone. You're an excellent photographer. Looking forward to your next contributiion.

I'm not sure about the horizon not beeing straight, but I believe that's intentional?

Excellent! I was wondering if it was possible to see this from all over the world. I've just added a photo of the same comet myself, and that's shot in Norway.

Nice shot!!

It's all natural. The picture is not manipulated in any way.
I found the structure in the icicle itself very beautiful. The dark part below is melting water just about to "let go" of the icicle.

The picture is shot towards the sun with the extensive use of flash. This brought out the details.
The icicle itself is about 1 cm in diameter.

Thank you very much for your nice comments
