Still a very clear image, you are lucky the flight attendants didn't stop you taking photos at this part of the flight - they always seem to when I am on a commercial aircraft.

A suggestion - On this one you could have cropped out the sky part of the image which would have removed the visible reflections as well.

Thanks for your kind and considered comments.

I am very lucky in that the aicraft I fly has large opening windows on both sides, so I can avoid the reflections and reduced visibility through the glass. It is also a vintage designed aircraft and can fly quite slowly which is helpful when taking aerial photos (although when I am flying on my own like yesterday - I maintain normal speeds to avoid any flight problems). I'll have a look at some of your aerial photos.

Hi Dave,

A great capture. Wish we had more interesting animals in our bag garden. How are you enjoying the 70-300? I went for the Tamron 70-300mm and found it really sharp although it does suffer from Purple Fringing.

So happens I'll be coming over to Canada (Toronto) for a week at the end of the month. Just lo ve your country. Sorry Winnipeg isn't on the list to visit at the moment - perhaps do that next time!

Dave - yes I got an incredible deal on the GX-10 at the time (only £299) which for a weather sealed semi-pro camera that I'm able to use all my Pentax fit lenses on was too good to pass up.

I love the high contrast processing here and the composition. Very much after my own preferences.

Dave,

Glad to see you are exploring B&W processing. I do a lot of this with the course work I am doing for my Open College of the Arts degree.

A very fine capture and well processed. To be honest he looks better dressed than I usually am!

Oooh - somewhere I've been!

It's a beautiful area and excellently taken.

I bet you'll want to go back there with the K20D. The image quality will be so amazing with your new camera.

Dave,

Been a while since I've been on here but glad to see you've made the right choice and gone for a Pentax ;)

If you haven't already I'd thoroughly recommend the Tamron 18-250mm for an travel/all-round zoom. I'll post one of my pics here that I took with mine on the K100D at the weekend.

Hi Dave, been a while since I've been on here, but very pleased to see that you are continuing to get your money's worth out of your S5000.

What a shame that 'plane is stuck to the ground instead of being in the air. But interesting to know about.

My S5000 is pretty much in retirement now as my Pentax see most of the action and I have a pocket sized Panasonic DMZ TZ3 (still with 10x zoom) that fills the gap for when I don't want to cart the Pentax around.

Will continue to post the occasional pic here.

The pastel colours, shapes, textures and composition of this are wonderful, but I do get this feeling it is just slightly out of focus.

Really love the colours in this and the compositional idea, but it would have been so much better if the waterline had been horizontal.

Hi Jen,

Thanks for your comments on my Butterfly.

This image of the Anemones is really fascinating. I've seen them in rockpools in Scotland and Wales but never these different colours.

Once again those fabulous blues of the Fuji. Great capture of the squirrel. The wildlife really hasn't been very cooperative for me this year. Maybe I'm not smiling at them nicely?

Hi Dave - sorry I haven't been around for a while.

Looks like you got lucky with the moon (too much cloud here)

Great composite image and I expect you had a nice hot drink after you came in from that experience!

Hi Dave,

A rather interesting capture indeed!

I'm presuming that this was a crop of the original which is why it is fairly grainy. I've been using Bibble Lite (recommended by some Pentax photographers) for initial pp of RAW images. However I experimented on some of my old Fuji and Olympus images and saw considerable improvements in some of them. I ran your image through and the attached image was the result.

Settings used in Bibble were:

Exposure: -0.51
Highlight Recovery: 30
Fill Light: 0.26
Sharpening: 0
Noise Ninja: 4.11
Slight S Curve applied

I'd recommend you try out the free trial version from http://www.bibblelabs.com/

I'm also going to try my Fuji in RAW mode for a while as Bibble can process the .RAF files it produces.

I would be interested to know what you did to get this image.

A beautiful and striking composition. this is very much a style I like. I am very much trying to theme a number of my recent images around simplicity. I think it can work really well and certainly does here.

I like this.

Possibly there is just a touch too much lightness in the foliage at the upper left-hand side, but the style works very well overall.

I do like the colours in this. Composition is good as well.

I might have done something in PS with that bright spot on the right but it does convey the mood of the season very well.

Hi Dave,

I really like this. Good composition and one of those feel-good factors that I can't really describe.

Good to see your Fuji still getting as much use as ever.

As I've posted this for Critique corner - here is some additional information:

I took this using Pentax RAW format on a lightweight tripod.

Initial post processing in SilkyPix to set White Balance and some curves/levels to produce a less tungsten looking image.

It was lit using orange flourescent street lights and some floodlights towards the rear.

Views as to alternative processing or improvements very welcome.

Just shows what artistic results can be produced from a simple digital camera.

Demonstrating effects of wind using a still camera is not very easy, but it's shown here very well.

The monotone blue underpins the theme very suitably and I 'm very impressed

A beautiful image. Looks like your technique results in very similar dynamic range to HDR techniques with digital cameras that I have started to experiment with.

I have to agree that Alberta is a beautiful state. I was over in Calgary and the Rockies earlier this year and I really enjoyed both the ranch and mountain experience.

I'm not sure I envy your cold winters, but the photo opportunities must be fantastic.

The cloud formation here really makes this one.

Nice photographic treatment of the subject. There's a history behind this object. When I see an image like this I just wonder what stories it could tell of travels and events.

A very impressive image. Very well composed and nicely balanced colour.

I really like the dividing line between the upper and lower parts. I might have cropped the bottom a bit higher but it works very well as it is.

The colours and concept (perhaps a word that is truly out of context here!) really work well with each other.

However it is let down a bit by less than sharp parts to the photo. Is this a slide that has been converted? I'm wondering if some of the quality of the image has been lost in the conversion.
