I've no idea where the red came from to be jhonest Danny, I think the grad fiters sometimes introduce their own little hues and tones.

the mono version of this is more powerful, but you can't see the deaweed as it's pretty much black :-(

I'll bob over to the humber and get some later, that's the nearest seaweed to us... any variety have better prediction powers than the rest?

aye - got a good few keepers in the end, got a boat shot to come, maybe a couple from the wall and perhaps a HDR from inside the castle

I hear rubbing stella into burned heads works a treat... or is that pouring 10 pints of stella down the throat?

either way, it takes yer mind off the pain :-)

hi Bartosz

not that many effects really, none at all in fact.

the shot's was taken with 5 stops of ND grad on teh sky and a polariser. the polariser was rotated to get the effect on the stones, then in photoshop I played with curves to make the sky more dramatic and then did a little dodge and burn on the rocks to emphasize the contrast.

the mono conversion was done using Channel mixer with the bliue channel ar about -20, the other 2 making it up to 100%

hi Geordie,

it was a few inches away from the nearest rock, I've got a tripod that goes flat to the ground, the legs are very variable - so just spread them fully out and tried lots of positions before getting this one.

slippy as hell there!!!

dull and gloomy, then sunny and cold - finally sunny and warm about 50 miles in-land :-)

the very "matt" look to the rock adds a lot of weight to the shot, makes the castle look that little bit more inpentrable than usual.

hi david

get yourself a filter holder, a polariser and 2 ND grad filters - put the dark bits of the grads on the sky and you'll keep the colours just like this :-)

Hi danny, thought I'd bob on here and see if anyone's at home - looks like the north east contingent are here in force :-)

it's that kind of thing, you take several exposures to cover all the light and dark areas, then you make a HDR file. THis is then used by a tone mapping package to produce images. It's still a young technology and seems to work best with architecture. landscape - not so good :-(

I'm just starting to try it. used photomatix yesterday, quite a nice tool, though I've not paid for it so it's output isn't the best!

I can see it being fantastic for architecture shots, especially interior ones. Get outside the window looking natural as well as all the dark areas inside.

will be trying that out more as the technology develops

cheers

it's a fantastic camera - one look through the viewfinder and you'll want one.

full frame at an affordable price - well nearly affordable!

it's a serious piece of kit and the results are unblieveable even blown up to 20" by 30"

Hi Eyal,

There was some PS work obviously, mainly just sharpening the roks to enhance the texture, upping the satyuration to get more of the red tones and curves to add contrast.

using filters when shootin always means less PS work

Cheers
