Good composition and the post processing works well with the subject.

Well done managing the DOF to keep the entire butterfly and flower in focus.

Thanks. Every now and then I feel the need to try a pinhole again but I'm almost always disappointed with the result. As my wife says, "It looks like your camera is broken." This is one of the few I'm happy with, largely because of the added art filter I think.

Nice image. I like how the horizontal banding of the rock and the varied colors of the evergreens and deciduous trees creates tension with the vertical orientation of the individual trees and height of the rock as well as the crop of the frame to make the result less static and add interest to the resulting photo. Well done.

Perfectly timed capture. You can see the the wheels turning in his head as he eyes the second ball.

Well timed and good job isolating the bird from the distracting surrounding branches.

Well seen. The colors and shapes combine into a very esthetic abstract whole.

Very nice shot. The focus is a tad soft for my taste, but the composition is first rate.

Thanks. Once upon a time WVU/PSU (and Pitt/PSU for that matter) was a great rivalry. It's a shame Paterno killed it with the jump to the Big 10.

"Highest shutter speed"-- What I have done is to go to shutter priority and then increase the shutter speed until it meters at my largest aperture. Then I'll take a few test shots and check the histogram as I gradually increase the shutter speed. The camera will register underexposure, but as long as the shadows aren't clipped in the histogram I can correct the exposure in RAW conversion and get very satisfactory results. This is the main reason to shoot RAW for me with the easy WB correction being an added benefit. Since I have a constant aperture lens this works very well for me. With a variable aperture you would have to set exposure using your slowest aperture at the telephoto end to allow you to zoom without worrying about underexposure or having to change the shutter speed.
"Shooting in the raw"-- I actually find shooting RAW to be faster and more powerful for post processing for WB correction and exposure adjustment. As far as actual shooting/recording times neither my D70 or D200 have a problem keeping up during RAW capture, though it does fill up a card faster. I don't know how well/fast Canon gear handles RAW capture.

Nice shot. I don't know if I can give much advice on better action shots as I'm just giving it a try myself, but my approach thus far has been to try to anticipate the action, keep the ISO as low as possible, and set the camera to shutter priority mode at the highest shutter speed keeping the lens wide open or close to avoid distracting backgrounds. I've also been shooting in RAW to give myself a little extra leeway in exposure and to be able to more accurately set white balance in conversion without having to mess around too much in PS and degrade other parts of the picture.

Thanks for the thought. The shots were supposed to post in that order but one didn't upload correctly and the order was messed up. I forgot about the new Panorama option when I prepared them. I'll have to do that tonight and repost.

Great concept and excellent use of DOF. My only suggestions would be to have a cleaner background behind the model instead of the blinds and to get rid of the lamp that shows up in the reflection.

Nice shot. Like others have said a ND grad filter would have been useful here. Alternatively you could have taken two shots, one exposed for the highlights and another for the shadows and combined them in PS to get the best of both exposures and really increased the dynamic range of the resulting picture.
