Hi Bob,

Thanks for your critique, all good points, and the cropped version is better indeed.

Nicely captured. The tones suggest a very hot day. I like the way the background shows the environment. THe only quibble I have is the tilted horizon.

Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you for commenting on my Toucan photo. I really like this one of yours. The expression on the dog's face is superb and the composition excellent. Very well done!

I could be mistook, but there's a Photoshop plug-in called Knockout that cuts an image away from its background. It's pretty effective. You can get individual hairs preserved with the background removed.

Anyway, it's a great image. Well done.

Thank you for commenting on my photo. This one of yours is excellent. You have, I think, taken a portrait of the tailor that he'd be proud to show others. Well done, and thanks for sharing your work.

As always, very impressed with your work. I love the contrast b/w the white feathers and black background. The bird's pose is exceptional. Very well done.

Mark,

I really like this shot. It's a soft shot, not oversharpened, and almost monotone. The diagonal S made by the river or fjord makes the short. Well done, and thanks for sharing this with us.

James,

Thanks for posting this incredible picture. I'm impressed with the way you've gotten the depth of field just right, keeping the entire bird focussed while the background is blurred out. The composition is great too.

It's a nice shot Jim. My only quibble is with the depth of field, which leaves the fish's tail and lower breast of the kingfisher unfocussed. Other than that, the composition, lighting and mood are excellent. Thanks for sharing this shot with us.
