Kind of a winner here. Did she pick it up on the first bounce?

No competition this year?! With an image like THIS in your portfolio?!! I'm trying real hard to figure that one out but my brain keeps freezing up. Perhaps I'll understand someday when I'm older and wiser.

Oh, BTW, this looks quite sharp on my display with the intentional softening noticed and it's got LV written all over it.

What?!...you don't like the almost flourecent pink keyline? I suppose it does remind one of those velvet paintings of Elvis from Tijuana even though Kiera is cuter than Elvis in my book. The arms were actually posed that way for a reason. Reminds me of a famous portrait from a couple centuries ago that I cant quite recall by name but I remember seeing this pose, or something similar, but if it's behind her back you want then check out my next post. (red keyline will still be there I'm afraid, but it's just a web image gimmick that will disappear in print. I've actually had some positive reaction to it on another site.

Thanks to all for the nice comments and good suggestions.

Oh, and "ditto" to all the above.

Nice holiday portrait. I'm guessing you have that 1D II working how you like it? I had read one of your posts expressing some disappointment at first. Looks fine from here!

While a nice shot as is, this waterfall is small enough to warrant a closer view with more detail.

Very good 4 Gen portrait. The only light "adjustment" I'd make is to use a broad, low-level hairlight. It could use it here but is fine as is.

Nice in every way. Also, Deb said she just bought this same dress for Kiera. Isn't that funny? Ok, not "funny" but...

Serious as in always or it is the "I just WOKE UP" seriousness? Almost has that look.

Splendid! This has to now be a family favoite, especially with the grandmothers. Amanda action? Includes a small dose of D/G? Seems to. I like what the f/1.8 does on the S2, don't you? Quite the peepers on Anna.

Graham, this view is far away from the 101 which veers inland at San Louis Obispo and doesn't re-connect with the 1 until the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. This falls in south of the Big Sur coastal area along the 1 which is a delight to travel as it hugs the rugged California coastline. A must-drive if you're ever in the vicinity. The image will be cropped above the area you cloned for printing but it's a nice idea. Thanks.

Louise, sorry, I forgot to address last reply to Mirek. He's the one with the nice K-mart in the neighborhood. ;-)

I'll have to give this a look in Sepia though...

Stiff and serious, or could we say formal and "behaved" as was the manner of the period we were attempting to portray in this Renaissance Portrait. She is dressed as a child of high status and in portraits from that era this was a common look. Smiles were slight at best and poses looked more "stiff" that today's. Your comments tell me that I achieved the look I intended. Thank you.

p.s. They have nice K-marts where you live?

Quite an original pose here. This should be a real hit with mom and dad. Such great expressions too. I would have never thought of a pose like this. Too bad imagination doesn't come in a bottle, cause I'd have to drink a few to be this clever.

Thumbnail does NOT do this justice. I was curious but the image is a delight to view. The golden glow of late afternoon tops it off.

Actually Don, the "no smile" was directed by me. To keep faithful to the period we went for a no-smile portrait. Look through the many portraits from that era and you'll see few if any smiles and rarely are there any teeth showing. We did get a few with smiles but that reduces the image to a person in a costume somehow and loses the authentic appeal. It would look even more authentic with a better background but maybe someday...

If I understand the translation correctly, I don't find the S2 to tend towards yellow at all. For studio shooting I always set a custom white-balance and shoot RAW. Colors come out very well for me. Make sure you have a correct white-balance setting.

As much as I like everything else about this, their (especially his) expressions are...almost awkward. As if waiting for instructions or in between shots and caught unexpectedly. Something not quite right about them holding hands yet looking at....ME!? What, did I say something?!!
;-)

But that light and those colors, the sky and the broad sweeping horizon...yummy! Perfect exposure too with one of the better dress shots I've seen around. Yes, the pose and elegant lines of the bride's dress is really good here. (But stop looking at me!)

everything about this shot captures what I can imagine Jillian's mood would be at this time. It's perfect!

BTW, how is that little budding model/musician doing these days? Sign that thing for me.

Nice composition with pleasant expressions all around with beautiful warm colors. This should look great on their website.

I probably would loose the horizon (higher camera position) and find a way to fill the shadows (whether reflector(s) or gelled flash)so the main exposure could be a little less, saving those hottest highlights.

I'm not sure what the usual practice is when photographing folk with their instruments in a group. How much instrument should show or is allowed to be hidden? That would be interesting to know. I feel like I'd like to see more of the smaller instruments for some reason.

Did you take any of them "performing"?

Setup, perspective and lens choice played out well here. You had some nice light that day I see. Can't have too much of that. That wind-blown wisp of his hair along with her veil make this a standout moment.

hmmmmmm...........competition image? Might want to put this in the folder of possibilities. I can see this getting fairly deep into the selection process. Color version might even do better? Would hafta see it.

Wow, what big hairy arms you have! ;-) I think your explaination may have been lost on some.

It's well done for sure with a nice dynamic image as a result of your cleverness. Many do this type of shot with a helmet cam setup but the sharpness here is better than what that setup usually gets. I would tell the foreground rider to let go of the brake levers though. Your application of motion is very well done here. (had almost everyone else thinking you were riding the foreground bike!)

Good point about the catchlights. Didn't notice really. After channel mixer B&W the eyes looked too dark so I selected the whole iris area and did a levels tweak and the catchlights got an unintended boost also it seems. Didn't really see the toy glaring with the modeling lights and he kept moving ALOT. New method for achieving sepia for me. I like it.

Thanks to all for comments!

You know what to do and how to do it. With all the nice things about this image, it's those chubby bare feet that put this over the top.

Smiles, grins and nice neat rows of pearly whites can be nice but you can't beat an expression such as this. It lends a thoughtful look to this young subject that smiles just don't seem to convey. This is a pose (and lighting) for other portrait artists to imitate.
