Tashakor Chief!
So soon? Where are you headed - MES, KAF or Kabul?? I am firmly stuck in our MoD - be good and take care of yourself - take your camera!

Of course you do, and you wouldn't like it! You are really making the camera work for you... pleased with it?

As a t*x payer - you should be spending less time driving around the streets of Kabul.... Great shot though!

I really wasn't sure about the border at the time, and now I agree that it doesn't do much. I was trying to frame the picture better after having to crop it hard because of a post

Chris,

Email me at at oldblue105-mail1@yahoo.co.uk. I love this picture - but my nostrils don't miss it!

Thank you Marc - great comment. Very counter intuitive, as everyone tends to face the camera. Will try and find an opportunity to give it a go(will need to find someone who is not going to be looking over their sholder asking if their a*se looks big in this!).

Many thanks Hugo; it is, I think, a fairly unique scene - I personally haven't seen terrain like this elsewhere during my travels in country.

Thank your Bill, I am now getting ready to leave Afghanistan, and this remains one of my favourite photographs - he was an impressive man, and I cannot imagine what he has been through over the last 20 years.

I thnk that is a fair comment - in truth I was trying to make something of a slightly dispappointing batch of pictures. The original proved pretty uninteresting. I had hoped for more - but the light was very difficult with deep shadow by the stand, and very bright sunlight in the background. I wanted to see, therefore, what others thought of it. Thank you for the critique.

They use a calf torso for tournaments.

I understand that they play with a calf body, which they soak in water for a couple of weeks. It weighs about 140lbs - so they tell me. They used to play with a goat, but it isn't demanding enough for tournament play!

Kiarang, you are right about the DOF, but it was taken with the equivalent of a 650mm zoom, so DOF was never going to be great. The camera focussed on the wall which was enough to make the kids slightly blurred. At the time I didn't think it would matter... Still fun though!

Carter, you know your Fat Alberts! I think it is a fun shot, though I am concerned what the man on the left is doing standing on his vehicle, thanks for the comments.

Thanks Jon, I agree that is lacks a focal point, but I just liked the shot - not sure why - but you are right; I find my eye flicking all over it.

Doyle, thank you for the comments. I know what you mean, but I was tyring to include the top of the smog for contrast with the sky. Shooting the picture Portrait might have been a better option.

Thanks for the advice - the S2 is the perfect camera for taking pictures of kids, due to its twist screen and ability to shoot from the waist, but possibly not in bright sunlight at max zoom (!) - will look for a hood of some sort.

Thanks for the comments - fill in flash is not something I am very used/attuned to at the moment, and will take this on as a project when I have a pause.
